Make openSUSE 11.0 LiveUSB Using Windows

In previous posts, I write a guide on "Create Live USB openSUSE use Kiwi." The text can be followed as a basis for the process openSUSE remastering but requires a long process to get them. Some of the distribution provides a relatively easy and openSUSE "properly" can also:-D. There is no problem with the kiwi kiwi remastering provides a range of options, for example, to make openSUSE LiveUSB, LiveCD, QEMU Image, VMWare Image, and Image XEN but sometimes we need some adjustments that have not been there in the kiwi.

I search for various topics and how to make openSUSE Live USB and some of them quite interesting to try. After trying a few tips and review, the following is the easiest way to make openSUSE Live USB system using Windows:-P.

Why should use Windows? Of course there is no obligation. Use the Windows system is intended for those Windows users who want to try openSUSE LiveUSB use without the need to install and no need to fear there is a problem with the data and the existing system.

Here is a summary of the process pembuatannya:
BENEFITS

1. This tutorial can be used in both Windows and Linux. The differences lie only in the process of making bootable Live USB (using syslinux)
2. Does not require the installation process openSUSE as well as the first Kiwi. Only need a distance download ISO LiveCD and tools to extract ISO (free utility 7-zip to do so)
3. Can use the FAT 32 file system so that the USB Flash Disk can still be used to save the file from Windows, Linux and Mac.
4. It's easy, only need a few short steps
5. The process quickly, take a few minutes. The process is the oldest copy ISO image of 700 MB ;-)

PREPARATION

1. Prepare the USB Flash Disk at least 1 GB
2. Download the latest version of syslinux
3. Download the results of the modifications initrd - initrdud name - of uploads Vavai Blog. Modifications include changes to this initrd to boot from the CD to the USB and the addition of modules for the NLS character set FAT 32
4. Download openSUSE LiveCD ISO. While this paper is made, I use openSUSE 11.0 RC 1

MAKE Bootable LIVEUSB

1. Run Windows
2. Plug a USB Flash Disk
3. Extract the downloaded syslinux
4. Open DOS Prompt (Command Prompt)
5. Move the folder to extract syslinux results, go to the folder Win32
6. Run the command syslinux-ma-driver letter-of-flash-disk, for example: syslinux-ma E: E is the driver with the USB Flash Disk. Note: The process of creating a bootable disk is very fast so do not wait for long-berlama:-D

LIVE USB DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

1. Plug back the USB Flash Disk is a bootable
2. Create a temporary folder to extract the ISO LiveCD, such as a folder liveiso
3. Extract the LiveCD ISO 7-zip or winrar to the folder liveiso
4. Copy all the contents of liveiso to a USB Flash disk
5. Copy all the contents of the folder boot/i386/loader to a USB Flash disk (folde to root, not inside the folder. That is, copy to drive E: is not to drive into a folder in E:)
6. Rename the file isolinux.cfg in the root folder USB Flash disk into syslinux.cfg
7. Copy the file to download initrdud the root folder USB Flash Disk
8. Make small changes in the file syslinux.cfg to use initrdud, not initrd. Make changes on this line: append initrd = initrd ramdisk_size = 512000 ramdisk_blocksize = 4096 splash = silent showopts be append initrd = initrdud kiwidebug = 1 ramdisk_size = 512000 ramdisk_blocksize = 4096 splash = silent showopts option kiwidebug = 1 will display any error messages:-D to terminal

TESTING

1. Boot the computer with the boot priority is the USB HDD. Most of the latest computer is already support this option. If using a laptop or computer that supports the change boot on the fly, change the selection by pressing the F12 key keyboard, F8, F9 or the other according to the configuration to your computer
2. When booting, press ENTER when there is the option to boot. Live-type any posts System as required will cause the error. We can modify this message but this is not too problematic left so supposing there :-)
